SELF MASQUERADE
Devil in Desquise
The picture is a self portrait of myself wearing a metallic red devil mask over my face with a black sweatshirt on with the hood over my head. My head is in the bottom middle of the picture frame with the Portland south hills in the background with a few houses. My head is the only object in focus but only takes up 16% of the picture.
On the surface a viewer might think of the picture as Halloween themed picture with some symmetry and depth of field involved. But as they look at it and relate it to the title of the picture, they might start to think how the outfit and mask relates to the word “disguise” The word itself is very mysterious, even to a bystander, it creates curiosity. The most literal way to put it would be, the person in the picture is disguising themselves as a devil. But why?
I believe that people have good and bad intentions and emotions inside them. Even if someone is a kind hearted individual and strives to be a decent human being, there is still bad feelings and intentions locked away somewhere inside. If a person is put into the correct situation where they will break their good will and cause them to outlast in a very negative way. Everyone has a breaking point, and some people are better at avoiding that than others. It only takes the right circumstances to let the Devil inside show it’s face.
